Hooray For Earth Tour Diary

06 Dec 2011

Noel Heroux from Hooray For Earth took some photographs of things he saw whilst on his band’s recent European tour, including the world’s least portable iPod dock and how to eat fish and chips in a bush…

This is when we first got into London and went directly to a Travelodge in the middle of nowhere so we took a cab “into town” as suggested by the half-asleep concierge. This town is Crawley and everyone we told about it hadn’t heard of Crawley.

This is 2.00pm in the afternoon and with massive jet lag we just wanted a pub to get unconscious at. We found this place that was laughably perfect as far as what we were looking for (christmas lights, fireplace, home-cooked type food, general pubby-ness).

Proud first pint. We failed to take pictures after this point but basically we partied at this remote pub until some locals came in clearly looking for Americans to fuck up. We got a cab back to the Travelodge and Joe passed out at 6pm. Travelodge had a bar open at that point which Chris and I hit hard until at some point I had a microphone plugged into my travel amp making some terrible feedback and then somehow took a shower and passed out in a towel.

This is on the way to the first show in Edinburgh. That’s the ‘Welcome To Scotland’ sign, only blurred.

Some of the sheep.

TANGY CHEESE?

After the Edinburgh show at a bar in town with our friends from New York who just happened to be in the UK.

The one time there was sun for 30 mins.

We had a couple days off, staying in Finchley, London in this totally empty flat. This is my favourite street to use while walking around looking for a grocery store.

With literally nothing to do, we needed to set up something to listen to music on. All we had was beer and amps and shit, so here is this way-too-elaborate setup just to play an iPod.

Fast forward a bit, this is after a show in Manchester an hour before I’m to get on a flight to Paris to spend the day talking to some people about music.

This is what 4am looks like above London’s cloud cover.

This is what the Eiffel Tower looks like from my taxi.

This is what London looks like coming back from Paris later the same day/night.

This is what Joe looks like drinking £2000 mescal. We didn’t pay for it, obviously.

We assume Noel got home OK.
