Brighton Live Is Five!

04 Sep 2008

Unsigned bands. For every 20,000 of them there are about six good ones. That’s a lot of sifting through rubbish music. Fortunately, the good people at Brighton Live have not only done this thankless task, poring over reams of crap entries to sift out the musical gold from the musical brown, but they have invited all of the decent acts down to their local coastline, with the intention of blowing the locals’ ears off.

The three day event, now entering its fifth year, runs from 23rd – 27th September across twelve of Brighton’s trendiest live music dens, spread across three different colour-coded ‘Zones’, which earmark three key areas of the city.

2007’s event saw over 20,000 gig-goers flock to the sell-out concerts, jam-packed free shows and a host of panels, seminars and workshops. This year, Brighton Live will again play host to all the key
Brighton bands, promoters, labels & music industry professionals, and provide them the perfect arena in which to hob-nob, blather and booze to their heart’s content.

Colleges across

Sussex
have also been weeding out the talent from the trash in the form of a giant Battle Of The Bands competition. Winning acts from Blatchington Mill, Worthing High,
Chichester
College and
Central
Sussex
College, Haywards Heath will go head-to-head on Saturday 27th September at the All Ages Show from 12pm-7pm. Make sure you get down there to check out
Brighton’s next big things!

Picks this year include noisy punks Riot Riot, the evergreen schizo-rock of My Device, named-after-a-crap-bit-of-town-in-homage-to-Portishead downbeat cover version merchants Portslade, the clattering urchin pop of Drookit Dogs and atmospheric brain-twisting jumpy pop monsters Duke Raoul.
