BAND OF SKULLS
Words: Tom Hewson
“I think in England we confuse people,” contemplates Band Of Skulls frontman Russell Marsden, “in America, our music comes across better”. You see, this Southampton threesome’s music is monstrous in a ‘Seven Nation Army’, US army stomping way, and although comparisons to Jack White seem compulsory, to leave it there would be a grave lazy judgment. Russell, alongside Emma Richardson (bass) and Matthew Hayward (drums), have been busy Stateside in support of their ambitious debut album, unafraid of playing for bigwigs in the Big Apple instead of one man and his dog in Camden. “London toughened us up, so playing a gig in New York wasn’t a shock to the system – it just seems right that we’re starting over there.” Fusing a very British Supergrass-styled indie-romp with an Americana tinge, we’re certainly up for the challenge of getting our heads around Band Of Skull’s scuzz-blues brilliance.
‘Baby Doll Faced Honey’ is out on You Are Here in September.
