MICKEY GANG
Words: Jessica Hazel

Arthur, Bruno, Ricardo and Joao are four Brazilian teenagers who initially bonded over a mutual love of old TV shows and a cynicism towards their friend’s bands; “They took what they were doing really serious, and forgot what music is for,” Arthur tells us, “so we started to do pop songs about their girlfriends, school and their mothers”. Their youthful anthem ‘Born In The 90’s’ soon made them darlings of the blogosphere and earned them a singing with uber-hip London label 50 Bones. Mickey Gang point blank deny the ‘new CSS’ tag that’s been stuck on them stating “Music is something weird here. And Brazilians singing in English is even weirder. Brazilian pop used to be magic and unique but now stuff is just forced upon you.” Luckily the fresh-faced simplicity and unashamed killer-pop hooks of songs such as the new single ‘Horses Can’t Dance’ sets Mickey Gang a million miles away from anything commercially mundane.

‘Horses Can’t Dance’ is out now on 50 Bones.
