Ten For 2010: Little Comets
Words: Mischa Pearlman

Snapped up by Columbia after the independent release of first single ‘One Night In October’, Little Comets look like they could well be leading the resurgence of guitar bands in 2010. It’s all happened incredibly quickly for them, but it’s been a very natural progression. “Me and Mickey have been playing together since we were eleven or twelve,” explains incredibly chipper singer Robert Coles. “After university, we started playing a few small gigs around Newcastle, and then branched out from there into other cities. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, going from doing gigs in a little pub in Newcastle to playing a load of gigs and writing a lot of songs.” So far, the band have played with the likes of The Noisettes and Hockey and their spiky, jerky, fun-filled tunes have a lot more to offer than just lazy comparisons to identikit indie bands. Their as-yet-untitled debut album has been recorded and is slated for release later this year. It’s something that, although exciting, is also a little bit frustrating for the band. “It’s all done,” exclaims Robert excitedly. “We mastered it on Friday, actually, but it’s been a long process. I just can’t wait for people to be able to hear it. It’s going to be a frustrating next few months until it gets released.” Expect it to make a big impression when it is.

‘Joanna’ is released on Columbia on February 22nd.
