Red Stripe Music Award 2010: Oxford
The Cellar in Oxford have revealed their line-up for the Red Stripe Music Award 2010. This leg of the event takes place on March 18th. Hundreds of bands have entered already for 2010 with the line-up below now finalized. Doors will be at 8pm and £4 entry.
Line-Up:
Rock Of Travolta
Oxford–based instrumental quintet The Rock Of Travolta have been recording through 2008-2009 and have just finished mixing and mastering their 2nd full length album ‘Fine Lines’ for release in 2010.
Huck And The Handsome Fee
Humphrey ‘Huck’ Astley is a veteran of the Oxford music scene, having played bass with notorious extreme metallers Sextodecimo since their inception a decade ago. Although a lover of rock as well as the avant-garde, his heart was often in the traditional genres of blues.
Gunning For Tamar
Gunning For Tamar is the brand new name for the band previously known as Rise East Strike West. Born from frustration with the mediocre fare on the radio, Oxford-based band Gunning For Tamar are brimming with the antidote to the ‘average’. Formed post-university and assembled from 2 parts Cornwall, 1 part Oxford and 1 part Isle Of Wight, the band infuse their music with a desire to make songs with compelling structures, whilst allowing ideas to weave and entwine with an unexpected, satisfying harmony. With the band already receiving regional BBC airplay and positive endorsement from figures such as local Oxford hero Loz Colbert (of RIDE fame), they now look to catapult themselves into 2010.
Lauren Bruce
A lone but powerful voice of sincerity – she wears her heart proudly on her sleeve and we are better off for it. Daughter of a musician, Lauren spent her childhood travelling around rural Australia, in and out of a range of venues, earning a music education the best way possible. Part of her strength arises from observing and now living that simple, but heartfelt interaction between artist and audience.
Gigs this year will take place around the country from January to April, across 30 of the country’s best live music venues – with even more partners and music industry muscle on board for 2010. Bands and artists are invited to enter details via www.redstripe.netand if selected will play for the chance to win spots at some of the UK’s best loved festivals, including The Great Escape.
