Ordinarily, you’d imagine that a pair of ex-pat friends making beautiful music together did so before they moved to London and Barcelona respectively. Civil Civic don’t do ordinary, though: “We’d never actually met when we were in Australia,” admits bassist Ben Green. “We were only introduced later by one of The Drones. Sort of like a blind date.” Clearly, one where the sparks flew, as, since then, he and guitarist Aaron Cupples have fired compositions at each other across the ether that weld together every stripe of alt.noise with face-frying ferocity and exhilaratingly needless complication. “There is a concept to it all,” teases Ben, “but mostly, it’s a feel thing,” and that’s the kind of cross-continental understanding that makes Civil Civic the perfect partnership…
