“We’ve split up quite a few times actually…” giggles Catherine Pierce – one half of New York sister folk-duo The Pierces. “There were times when we felt like it wasn’t going anywhere, even after three albums. We even split the day before that call…” The Pierces aren’t what you’d conventionally construe as a ‘new band’, but ‘that’ call would be what re-invented them as one. It was from Coldplay bassist, Guy Berryman, who saw potential in the sisters that – despite the TV sync success of the haunted fairground-esque ‘Secrets’ – just couldn’t nail it. As his first project, Berryman fixed that. The result was a new album deal with Polydor and a songwriting process no longer fragmented by sibling differences or juvenilia. Here’s to a new chapter in the journey of The Pierces.
