TWIN SHADOW
Words: Michael Bennett
George Lewis Jr’s moustache puts the pointed efforts of Dalston scenesters to shame. “If you’re too light and fluffy about it, it can be a very dangerous thing,” says the man behind Twin Shadow. “When I grew up Freddie Mercury was always on TV, my father always had a moustache… it’s a powerful male image as long as the guy is not being ironic.” Produced by Grizzly Bear, his debut album ‘Forget’ could soundtrack an unmade cult classic, with songs like ‘When We Were Dancing’ channelling the 80s as flawlessly as Neon Neon. Dominican Republic-born Lewis Jr describes his muted electro as “a watercolour on a rough piece of paper… almost a pastel but really potent in one spot and very pale in another.” It’s a very pretty picture indeed.
‘Savannah Howl’ is out now on Terrible Records.
