CLOUD CONTROL
Words: Michael Bennett

Sitting on top of Australia’s Blue Mountains, four-piece Cloud Control certainly had the right setting for their debut album ‘Bliss Release’, which blends the pastoral with the psychedelic. “You can’t really see any other houses, there were a few horses,” says vocalist Alister Wright, of his shack in the Megalong Valley, “but I think that isolation means that the lyrics come from within.” Though they admit to enjoying echoey hymnal harmonies, there’s more to Cloud Control than the ‘next Fleet Foxes’ tag. Whether it’s the shoegaze reverb on ‘This Is What I Said’, the medieval power ballad ‘Beast Of Love’ or the chirpy ‘yips’ and tripped out riffs of ‘Gold Canary’, this is folk with beat and soul.

‘Meditation Song #2’ is released on Infectious on November 22nd.
