FlyRegional
What year is it? Who's the president? Why am I here? Etc.
Frankly we don't give a monkey's about the first two. You need to find those out for yourself (try wikipedia), but the third we can help with.
You see, FlyRegional is your tool. It's a platform to spout your views, blog yourself silly and just generally argue a lot about music and stuff.
Although, there is also another side to it that we think is pretty ace.
By befriending the regional page in your area, you'll be able to stay abreast of, and eventually influence, all the good music stuff that's happening in your area.
Plus, if you're travelling to another part of the country, you can quickly find out what's going on before you get there.
You can blog and upload pictures from gigs (or anywhere else for that matter) from your mobile, you can do that by MMS or through your browser. In addition to being a great place to find out what's going on there will also be special offers and competitions you can enter.
What do we want from you? Not much. You need to register, on a PC, and if you want to do mobile blogs and mobile image uploads, we need your mobile number so that we can put your stuff in the right place.
We use shortcodes on mobile to make it easy for you to send stuff in, we don't charge you premium rate for your input, though you do have to pay your normal operator rates.
You'll also get to look at adverts (we have to pay for this somehow), the ads don't take up much space so don't really cost anything when they're downloaded on your mobile, along with the rest of the page you're viewing.
So if you haven't registered, go to the bottom of this page and click the small register link (sorry you can't register from your mobile) and put in your details. Don't forget to put in your mobile details so you can tell people about stuff on the move. We also need your email address to verify you're you before we accept your registration.
As you navigate around the site you'll find out how to do things like blog and send messages, you can send messages from your PC to a friend's mobile and they can respond back all within the platform. There's a help link on every page and if you do a search for theflyadmin site you can get help there too.
So if you register your mobile number as part of the registration process, you'll be able to send in SMS blogs (160 characters) from a gig as well as MMS uploads to your gallery. If you've got a Blackberry or a phone with email you can send in email blogs with image attachments that go into your blog or you can just send in images to your gallery by email.
SMS Blog
Dead simple: send a text with the keyword FLY to 80880. To get a blog title and then the blog entry you do the following: after the keyword you put a space and then the title at the end of the title you put a : and then everything after that colon is the body text for your blog. For example
FLY the Tribes gig: gr8 band, gr8 beer at the Dog & Duck, crowd fantastic nxt set 11 o'clock
Will appear on your blog as
24/04/2008 21:20:08 the Tribes gig
Gr8 band, gr8 beer at the Dog & Duck, crowd fantastic nxt set 11 o'clock
If you want to send an email blog you send to
fly@blog.ourtribe.mobi, the subject of the email will be the title of your blog and the very first line of the email body text should just be your username and password separated by a space.
MMS Gallery upload
You need to have MMS enabled on your contract and it will cost you around 30 pence (depending on your contract) to send. So you take a picture, select send via MMS, you will the need to enter the number it's going to, in this case 60300 and you put the caption for the image in the subject field if you have one and then the word FLY in the body text. Make sure you don't put anything else - if you do it's lost
On a Nokia your MMS could look something like this
To: 60300
Subj: Tribes on stage
FLY
IMAGE
Of course you can do all of this from your browser on your mobile and PC.
That's it have fun with FlyRegional - that's what it's really about. And let us know what you think is good, bad and downright ugly!
