So goes Black Lips guitarist Ian St Pe's reasoning behind his band's brilliant, ear-realigning FlyTV In The Courtyard session. Yes, both songs by Ian and his Black Lips cohort Jared Swilley are so out of tune that you if you listen closely enough you can hear birds dropping out of the sky, but nothing could underline the Atlanta four-piece's don't-give-a-fuck aceness better. Black Lips are a proper rock'n'roll band, their FlyTV In The Courtyard performance bringing to mind the scene in Nirvana's Live Tonight Sold Out video when Kurt Cobain realises his guitar is horribly out of tune during 'Come As You Are' but, rather than stopping to tune, shrugs and embraces it...
