Clever wordplay, cryptic Tumblr posts and a wishy washy colour scheme on a Bandcamp page will not prompt a sudden metamorphosis into ‘the next Animal Collective’. That Brooklyn-based My Best Fiend’s music bleeds promise in spite of these things, then, is brilliantly refreshing. Wispy guitar, campfire vocals and sleepy melodies make ‘Higher Palms’ pretty much irresistible. That it sounds like Semisonic and MGMT at the same time is even better.

‘Higher Palms’ will be released on limited seven inch on Warp 0n 23rd January.
