With their happy-happy name and song titles including ‘True Loves’ and ‘Bring Us Closer Together’, Hooray For Earth could be construed as the Brooklyn-based-band equivalent of a squad of grinning cheerleaders with ‘Yay!’ emblazoned on their leotards. Not so fast. Actually, they mix the weirdo tics of their Brooklyn forbears MGMT and Yeasayer, with the unashamed floorfiller appeal of Depeche Mode and their mates from the 80s. This live version of ‘True Loves’ uncovers the darkness behind those big smiles.
