“David Bowie Forgot My Name”
Former Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley was horrified when her hero David Bowie forgot her name whilst dedicating a song to her.
Speaking exclusively to The Fly ahead of the impending Ash reunion shows, the guitarist revealed that The Thin White Duke’s memory isn’t what it used to be.
Bowie’s drummer advised Hatherley to stick around for the encore after the final show of the 2002 Heathen tour at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre.
“He [Bowie] comes back out and says, ‘We’re gonna play [Charlotte's favourite song] ‘Always Crashing In The Same Car’ and this is for, um, this is for, er… oh this is just a song,” recalls the guitarist.
“I wish that it had never happened because it was so close to being perfect.”
Hatherley froze when she met her idol on the tour, “I had a total out of body experience,” she said.
“He was talking to
me quite a lot and I couldn’t really focus on his face, I couldn’t
really hear what he was saying and I just ended up saying something
really crap like ‘I’m a really big fan’ and then walked off.”
Ash reunite with Charlotte Hatherley for a handful of special shows to celebrate the release of the ‘Best Of Ash’ album. The band will also play ‘Free All Angels’ in its entirety.
