Ryan Jarman is “A Slave” To The Cribs
The Cribs frontman Ryan Jarman has revealed that working on the band’s fifth album has made him feel like “a slave to the band forever”.
In an exclusive interview with The Fly, the singer and guitarist said: “This record has taken the biggest toll on every facet of my life and even though I know I’ll remember the recording process fondly, we’ll probably have a nervous breakdown silently by the fire!”
Jarman continued: “I’m all consumed by this record, I wouldn’t say it’s been all enjoyable and all easy. You don’t think about anything else, you’re in a daydream. It’s hard to communicate with people. It’s been a strange time and we’ll be relieved when it’s done.”
Jarman also commented that the as-yet-untitled album is “more good natured” than 2009’s ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ and that it will include “pop tunes and weirder songs; one track is currently 15 minutes long”.
The album is the Wakefield trio’s first since the departure of former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. Bassist Gary Jarman added: “When Johnny left we were at a crossroads: we either took time off, or we continued. It really galvanised us and we wrote a lot really quickly, not as part of any grand masterplan. We had to do a lot from scratch again. It was good; we just went back to doing what we always did.”
The Cribs have around 20 songs available for inclusion on the album and have been working with Dave Fridmann and David Richards. Click HERE to read the full interview.
