KAISERS GO ROMAN

02 Aug 2007

What? Eh? Has the world gone completely mental?

In one of the more bizarre news items of recent weeks Kaiser Chiefs are to be immortalised in their hometown of Leeds…

…as Romans.

Leeds City Council’s award-winning ‘Roman Garden’ will feature the Kaisers as the subject of one of 10 ‘Roman’ News scripts about contemporary Leeds read by actor – and star of BBC 2′s series ‘Rome’ – Ian McNiece.

Says project leader Martin Driver: “When I was asked about modern-day Leeds in a cod-Roman style, the Kaiser Chiefs were one of the first things to come to mind. It was when Ruby was out as a single and the repeated chorus just made me think of the Kaiser clan worshipping the four rubies.”

A video recording of the Kaisers’ news piece and other Roman stories about the city are being shown regularly on a massive BBC screen in Leeds’ Millennium Square.
