Graham Coxon Releases New Solo Album

09 Mar 2009

Graham Coxon will release a new, 15-track solo album.

Entitled ‘The Spinning Top’, the acoustic solo album is due for release on May 11th; “The album is mainly an acoustic journey although there is, of course, some explosive electric guitar action,” Coxon explained.

Recorded with Blur and Babyshambles producer Stephen Street in London last year, the album features an eclectic mix of guests helping out such as Robyn Hitchcock, Jas Singh, Danny Thompson and Louis Vause.

“I wanted to show how exciting acoustic instruments can be, how dynamic and rich and heart-thumpingly raw they can sound at a time when acoustic music seems either too cute or too soppy. Obvious influences here are the amazing Martin Carthy, the late, great Davey Graham and the late, great John Martyn.”

Graham Coxon is set to release the single ‘Sorrow’s Army’ on May 18th with the track, ‘In The Morning’, preceding its release on April 18th as part of Record Store Day. With the singer currently on tour with Pete Doherty and a string of Blur UK shows scheduled for this summer, his solo shows are set to take place in autumn.
