DIRTY PRETTY THINGS ROCK METRO WEEKENDER

28 Aug 2007

Dirty Pretty Things rocked Sunday’s Metro Weekender in London.

An estimated 20,000 people attended the outdoor event on Clapham Common, with another 4,000 turned away.

But it was a no-show by Barat’s former Libertines bandmate Pete Doherty that threatened to overshadow proceedings.

Babyshambles had been booked for a lunchtime slot on Sunday, but Doherty is currently booked into rehab in Wiltshire.

Inevitably, Carl was drawn to comment on his old friend’s absence, and how both bands have fared since the Libs split in 2005.

He told today’s Metro paper: “When you read about someone you know in the papers, it sounds like a different person. [Dirty Pretty Things] have always shrugged off and ignored the publicity. I have just always written songs.”

Meanwhile, yesterday’s Welsh leg of the event saw Super Furry Animals, The Streets, The Automatic, Dizzee Rascal, Rumble Strips and Kate Nash entertain the Cardiff crowd at Coopers Field.
