Woodstock 40 Cancelled
Woodstock 40, the festival to commemorate the original legendary event has been cancelled.
Promoters have had to scrap the commemorative event after failing to secure funding for the celebration of the festival which took place in August 1969. The event this year was originally due to go ahead on the anniversary of the original but had been pushed back to September to tie-in with Climate Week, before now being cancelled.
Organisers couldn’t raise enough cash to stage it, with conservative estimates stating the cost of putting on the free event at $8 – $18 million. Organiser Michael Lang who also exec-produced the 1969 event admitted the money hadn’t materialised “It just didn’t come together” he told US paper the Times Herald Record.
Speaking to Billboard earlier in the year he indicated he hoped to see The Who, Santana, Crosby, Stills And Nash, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the event.
