Speech Debelle Wins Barclaycard Mercury Prize

Speech Debelle is the winner of this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize.

The rapper was awarded this prestigious prize for her album ‘Speech Therapy’ at the ceremony in the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night (September 8th).

“Thank you to the panelists, to my band, thank you so much to my mum, to my fans. Thank you to whoever’s name’s on the cheque. I’ll be here all night – thank you very much, good night,” she said when accepting the speech.

Speech Debelle beat off competition from the likes of Bat For Lashes, Florence And The Machine, Friendly Fires, Glasvegas, The Horrors, La Roux, Led Bib, The Invisible, Lisa Hannigan, Kasabian and Sweet Billy Pilgrim.
