TURNMILLS COMES TO AN END
Turnmills Director Danny Newman has revealed that after 23 years his infamous club is closing down in March.
The Turnmills night ‘Get Loaded’ brought the sound of Madchester to London as everyone’s favourite wasters Shaun Ryder and Bez spent many a night in the place, as well as Noel Gallagher and Keith Allen frequently popping down for a sambuca or two. Bjork and Madonna also regularly turned up at ‘Trade’ (not together though I doubt), and old Robbie Williams would enjoy a night at The Gallery. The venue even hosted Michael Jackson and Alexander O’Neil’s birthday parties.
Danny Newman explained why the venue is closing, “The most important reason is of course that the lease is nearly up and the landlord wants to develop the site.
“It feels as though it’s come to a natural end, and we are finishing on a high. I’ll miss it dearly, as it will so many people. Thanks to everyone that ever came down, it was YOU that made the place what it was; we were just doing what we do behind the scenes. Take care; hopefully we’ll see you all for one last dance at Easter. Thank you… and goodnight.”
