QUEENS OF THE SICKAGE
Josh Homme put his bronchitis to a side last night (11 February) for Queens of the Stone Age’s only London show of the year.
Despite frontman Josh Homme suffering from bronchitis and “chronic stupidity”, the band played their gig at Hammersmith Apollo. The singer’s illness almost cost the band gigs in Edinburgh and Leeds, but they stuck it out and carried on to London. He told NME:
“I have what doctors describe as chronic stupidity. So I’ll just book six shows straight and play until I’m destroyed. There’s people around me that are like, ‘Let’s slow our roll a little bit’, and I’m like ‘No!’ You know, overriding. I wanna get there, so I need to sort of try to break myself out of that habit a little bit. I’m not in a hurry but I just wanna keep working.”
Cutting some of their shoutier songs out, the band still managed to play an invigorating set.
Also in the news today Lenny Kravitz was admitted to hospital yesterday after being diagnosed with – similarly – bronchitis.
It is not yet clear how long the singer will remain in hospital, however, Kravitz has postponed all of his European tour dates.
Coincidence? Or have both of them been tongueing the same Courtney love? Or each other? They don’t call em ‘Queens of the Boneage’ or ‘Bummy Kravitz’ for nothing.
