Barclaycard Mercury Prize Shortlist Due

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2010 shortlist will be announced in two weeks’ time.

Hosted by The Hospital Club in Covent Garden, the 12 shortlisted albums will be revealed by broadcaster and presenter Lauren Laverne at 11.30am on Tuesday July 20th.

Albums released between July 2009 and July 2010 are eligible for this year’s prize. The panel’s decision is based solely on the album music rather than on commercial sales success and all genres of music are treated equally. Previous winners have included Dizzee Rascal, Badly Drawn Boy, and Franz Ferdinand, while last year’s prize went to to Speech Debelle for her album ‘Speech Therapy’. 
 
The overall winner of the 2010 Prize will be decided and announced at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Awards Show, which will be broadcast live on BBC Two on September 7th.
