
Right. This is going to depend on your tolerance for D Lucille’s Nico-esque voice. Like Editors’ Tom Smith (and, you know, his whole Ian Curtis thing), it’s hard to work out whether the similarity is entirely incidental. And it doesn’t help when D coos, “Won’t you let me be your Nico?” in the opener. Anyway. There are some extremely fine songs here. ‘Angelyne’ jangles gracefully, while elsewhere smart lyrics, ice-cool synths and unshakeably catchy tunes abound (‘A Ghost With A Hammer In His Hand’ is especially superb). Vocal hang-ups aside (you may neither notice nor care), this is a treat.
