‘5’ is the first new Lamb album since the revered folky trip-hop duo reformed in 2009. Rather than wallowing in the barebeats and coffee-shop chic that their music had become, ‘5’ sees them embrace a stronger vocal presence, songs that are more… well, songlike. What remains of their old output is the sense that they could headline a field full of crusties and pill-heads without turning off either faction – the muscular skips of ‘Build A Fire’ are particularly suitable for the live arena. If this reunion turns out to be short-lived, at least they gave us one more respectable record.
