‘Creatures Of An Hour’ (Sub Pop)

Reverb, echo and delay – love the way they sound, love Still Corners. ‘Creatures Of An Hour’ sees the London four-piece whip up an FX-ridden fug of Twin Peaks riffs, woozy organs, twinkling electronics, clipped beats and breathy female vocals. But behind the thick, sonic haze there’s enough in the way of beguiling melodies and pretty ditties to keep you delving into these ten tracks time and time again. ‘Endless Summer’ with its rattling drums is an instant winner, as is the brooding ‘Into The Trees’ and ‘I Wrote In Blood’’s intense, slow build, all leading to ‘Submarine’’s shimmering finale. A compelling first stab at record-making.
