The Field’s third endeavour is a marvellous slab of deeply hypnotic electronica. Throughout, sonic cityscapes are built with the robotic methodology of Kraftwerk or prime Simple Minds, beats evaporate like dissolving rainstorms, and bleeps unravel to reveal daringly naked acoustica. ‘It’s Up There’, meanwhile, reduces an especially sense of-wonder-happy Boards Of Canada to a gentle throb, while ‘Arpeggiated Love’ makes provocative “whooshing” sounds. Skyscraping and shoegazing all at once, this is comfortably one of 2011’s finest electronic offerings.
