Mystery Jets

‘Twenty One’

(Sixsevenine)

As the creatively obsolete post-Libertines scene finally stutters to an end, the stage is set for bands like Mystery Jets to explode into the cool kids’ consciousness.

Out are battered leathers, military costume and worn-bare fret boards. Taking their place is, well, whatever really – collective eclecticism is the order of the day under the Jets’ stewardship.

Their music – crammed full of romanticism, fun times and wacky realism – is the new sound of the noughties, striking that rare balance between artistic luxury and popular approval.

Sure it’s taken them an album to get there, but now, as these Eel Pie eccentrics are hitting full stride, expect them to give chase to your heart.
