‘The Hungry Saw’
(Beggars Banquet)
After a five year hiatus which saw Tindersticks frontman Stuart Staples enjoy solo success and a relocation to France, the band are back, but not as we know them. They have slimmed down – now incorporating just three of their original members – but as ‘The Hungry Saw’ unfolds it soon becomes clear that the music is as warm and full-bodied as it always was. From the horn, wind and string-tinged ‘Yesterday’s Tomorrows’ through to acoustic guitar-driven ditty ‘The Flicker Of A Little Girl’, ‘E Type’’s rhythmic reverb and ‘Feel The Sun’’s hypnotic pianos and glockenspiel tinkles, this beautiful seventh offering is a fine return to form.
