The problem with The Splendour is they sound like too many bands at the same time, whilst the band itself flits about in insignificant background. ‘Money’ kinda does a Mansun hip-swagger minus androgynous blade-slashing; ‘Hope You’re Alright’ sorta pouts like Franz Ferdinand, but jowly. Excellent single ‘Audio’ does actually manage to square up to Kaiser Chiefs and flog Ricky Wilson’s skinny-twat arse, which is laudable but no big boast. They have proficiency, do The Splendour, and once they pin-point a uniqueness through the actually quite decent noise they make, anything’s possible. For now, they’re like the opening festival band whose songs do a half-decent job of sounding like the rest of the day’s bill. A career, yes – but there are better ways to make money.
