‘Nights Out’
(Because Music)
Apparently, ‘Nights Out’ is a concept record. We’re not sure about that but, with an intro that sounds like a sci-fi film soundtrack to end of the universe, it’s clear from the start that Metronomy’s full-length debut is an ambitious one. Documenting highs and hangovers, it’s both euphoric and melancholic, and always irresistibly danceable. ‘My Heart Rate Rapid’ is the sound of Devo and Prince dancing to disco, whilst ‘Radio Ladio’’s electro squeals sound like the result of a love affair with Kraftwerk and David Bowie. With sounds made from keyboards found in skips and recordings done round at main-man Joseph’s, this is experimentation at it’s most gloriously raw. As for concepts, it seems the only one Metronomy follow is being pretty blood amazing.
