This LA bunch take afrobeat melodies and rhythms and fuse them with indie-pop sensibilities. A West Coast
Vampire Weekend, then? Nope – this 24-legged outfit of inspired musos are leagues ahead of any bandwagon jumping indie-popsters. Fools Gold aren’t just a western band inspired by afrobeat, they are an afrobeat band. Unlike Vampire Weekend, it’s the western pop influence that comes second to their joyous brand of thumping afrobeat and obscure instruments. Centred around Israeli-born singer Luke Top’s impenetrable Hebrew lyrics and Lewis Pesacov’s slick guitar-style caught somewhere between the desert and Nick Valensi of The Strokes. Drop the cold-hearted cynicism and embrace the warmth of the glorious sunshine tunes on offer here.
