‘The Crystal Axis’
(Siberia/Inertia)

Midnight Juggernauts take Klaxons’ flirtation with the great beyond and throw a sparkly cape over it on their second full-length ‘The Crystal Axis’, one of the year’s most kaleidoscopic releases. Like fellow Aussies Cut Copy, the trio know how to cut a perfect slice of dancefloor-filling electronica but, rather than projecting their music into hearts and minds, this duo opt for the stratosphere. As a result, ‘The Crystal Axis’ is a floaty space opera, packed full of mind-bending diversions and spangled sights. ‘Cannibal Freeway’ is the sound of an intergalactic roadtrip whilst ‘Lemura’ is one of many alien army marching band anthems on this collective ode to oddness.
