‘No Problem’
(Co-Operative)

You’ll find no steel drums on this debut – Jamaica is actually two hipper-thanthou geeks from Paris. With Justice’s Xavier de Rosnay is on production duties, it’s no surprise that ‘No Problem’ is wrapped in an extra coat of bombast. What is a sur prise, though, is that there’s not a synth in sight. In fact, Antoine Hilaire & Flo Lyonnet’s new school, ever-so-slightly-disposable, scuzzy guitar-pop has more in common with Phoenix (catchy hooks, pointy riffs, particularly on ‘Short And Entertaining’) than, say, Daft Punk. There’s little sting in the tail, however. It sometimes drifts too close to London electro also-rans Protocol for comfort, but overall, ‘No Problem’ is a reminder that when the French get summer pop right, it’s totally irresistible.
