Producer/DJ duo The Count & Sinden’s debut crafts a gloriously ungainly drunken conga through genres from 80s disco to Ibiza House via the murky backstreets of East London’s warehouses. ‘After Dark’ is an early indication of the pair’s willingness to let the album’s many contributors carve their influences into proceedings, with Mystery Jets’ 80s-tinged disco skip a high point. ‘Desert Rhythm’s carnival calypso beat bobs along beneath electro synths whilst ‘Elephant 1234’ utilizes a throbbing, pulsating bass-line that’ll soil pants from a hundred yards. Sure, there are times when ‘Mega Mega Mega’’s cacophony of worldmusic styles tumbles into questionable territory – ‘Roll Out’ creeps perilously close to the Baha Men and ‘Hardcore Girls’’ toothless rapping sneaks beneath the radar – but the highlights far outweigh any minor gripes.
