‘Sun Comes Up Again’
(Mercury)

Now that the initial reactions to Andy Burrows’ foray into solodom – ex-drummer from Razorlight! Turned frontman! Not shit! I KNOW! – have been hurdled,
perhaps attention can turn to just what a wonderful debut ‘Sun Comes Up Again’ is. There’s a breezy warmth to it that reflects Burrows’ affable personality, but, beyond that, melancholia hides under saccharine summer-pop. Lead single ‘Green Grass’ sounds like Hot Chip by way of Supergrass, the harmonious ‘No Wonder’ is steeped in British pop classicism, whilst ‘Hurricane’ perfectly demonstrates Burrows’ ability to veer between sadness and sun-soaked melodies. Lyrically, of course, there’s snapshots of the Burrows/Borrell fall-out, but, more than that, it’s a record that finds Burrows in energised, revitalised form. ‘Sun Comes Up Again’ reveals him as a true songwriting talent.
