Deerhoof’s eleventh album sees them land somewhere in the bonkers tropical paradise between Animal Collective and Nouvelle Vague – musical schizophrenia is at its sweetest. ‘I Did Crimes For You’ sees them “smashing windows” and declaring a “stake up” to the most charmingly Parisian backing, ‘Hey, I Can’ is bizarrely reminiscent of 70s oddball duo Sparks and ‘Let’s Dance The Jet’ could easily have been the theme tune to an alternate universe Pink Panther. Between that motley lot and the plethora of enchantingly twee vocals and ballsy interludes that pack around them, we want a bit of whatever Deerhoof are on.
