At times frenzied, brash and ‘alternative’, at others lush, anthemic and ‘commercial’- as fitting of its title – ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ is a début that can’t make up its mind. Conventionally such an identity crisis makes for an interesting range of ideas, yet sadly there’s nothing here that hasn’t been done before (by Passion Pit and Yeasayer, for example) and done better. Sure, highlight ‘The Sun’ is marvellously textured and dark while ‘Young Blood’ is a damn fine pop song, but take a listen to ‘Punching In A Dream’ and tell us it doesn’t make you want to listen to MGMT’s ‘Kids’. Exactly.
