Mazes mixed their early recordings using an old television and completed sessions for this Pavement indebted debut on a boat in the middle of the Thames. The London-based punks may not cuddle up to convention, but there is method in their madness. ‘Most Days’ whizzes past with a Ramones-meets-The Kinks puff of punk swagger and clever wordplay, then the backwards-cap, slacker charm of their American indie idols shines through as they turn the guitars up and ease off the throttle on ‘Wait Anyway.’ A brilliant illustration of brains as well as brawn.
