An extraordinary blend of British talent is showcased at tonight’s 5 Night Revue. Three bands, all display their ability to transform modern pop song structures into a strange and refreshing combination if intuitive sounds. Hook And The Twin kick off the dancing tonight, their angular, Tom Vek-esque tunes resonate, with their slightly surreal take on indie melodies. With a Late Of The Pier-styled bonkers sound fused together to make a colorful swelling live set, the duo make electronic music with Supergrass inspired vocals and joyfully inventive electronic layers.
With their debut album sweeping up excellent reviews all over, Post War Years manage to translate their euphoric dance perfectly live. Swelling with excitement, the quartet create a kind of Friendly Fires styled-pop, with their glistening electro beats over heartfelt vocals. Looking totally enveloped in the moment with massive grins accompanying their slick and tight, songs like ‘The Black Morning’, sound’s massive, elated and optimistic. The spatial arrangements on ‘Whole World On Its Head’ showcase their creativity and eclectic ability.
Everything Everything, the Manchester-based quartet, embraced their ability to flick the genre switch every other track, and began with their somber, shoegazey opener, wowing us all with their vocal abilities. With basic pianos a very solemn drum beat, the band flipped to a Futureheady-styled indie, pumping out awkward beats, the band soon flipped into their brand of R’N’B and angular rock. The gig really explodes when the opening plinks of Everything Everything’s ADD dance pop single ‘Photoshop Handsome’ kicks in. The strange fusion of falsetto voice and innocent articulated harmonies make for a totally unique climax to the gig, leaving us dizzy with glee. Although they band have only released a couple of singles so far, the audience respond to all of their surreal and brilliant new songs as if they were already familiar, leftfield indie hits. Smattered with hand-claps, insane harmonies and back and forth vocals, their dippy, multi facetted sounds soar tonight. Everything Everything wow it’s audience and cement themselves as one of the UK’s most promising prospects.
