Husky Rescue
Academy 3, Birmingham
08/03/2010

In Birmingham’s intimate Academy 3, Finland’s finest nature loving sextet Husky Rescue take to the stage. A sombre presence; they connect first with the music before asking the audience to move closer “so we can feel your presence”.  Largely covering material from current album ‘Ship Of Light’, the multi-instrumental outfit appear as at one with each other as they are with their music. Lost in their own rhythms, eyes are closed as the music pours from their souls and fills the space.

Chirpy front-woman Reeta Vestman bursts into life over the addictive refrain of ‘Sound Of Love’ which proves to be smile-inducing, and having hypnotised her audience, shoulders start to sway in response. Relaxing into the set in response to this positive feedback, smiles break out amongst group members.  They then revisit their debut album briefly with ‘City Lights’, and Husky Rescue up their game as the pace alters with the group steaming ahead to ‘We Shall Burn Bright’ – vocals ring out as the chorus soars, arms are in the air and the group respond with equally animated excitement.

As the set draws to a close with ‘Beautiful My Monster’, Reeta has the audience eating out of her hand to the obvious delight of her bandmates. Returning gloriously to the stage, the Finnish contingent of the audience come vocally to life unable to withhold their passion anymore. Gloriously upbeat and in good spirits, it is clear that Husky Rescue have enjoyed their stay in Birmingham as much as their cheering audience.
