Apr 16 2008 11:06 am,

You know those mornings where everything seems to go wrong? Well, today was one of them. I woke up at normal time (jetlag has passed, fortunately), and set off for the station as normal. On the way I walked past the local Oxfam shop and noticed that someone had broken in and robbed it. Which raises the question, what the fuck is wrong with some people!?!?! Knowing that I was early for my train, I paused momentarily to survey the scene (yes, I slow down to check out car crashes when I drive past as well), and then continued on my way. Unfortunately, as I got to the platform, at 9.23 according to the station clock, it was to see the 9.24 train pulling away! Typical… Then the next train, the 9.39, was late, then sat outside Bethnal Green for five minutes, meaning that by the time I got to Liverpool Street the 10am fire drill was in progress, so I had to wait for it to finish before touching out my Oyster Card to avoid being charged the maximum fare. (For the record, I wonder how many people fall foul of this each morning and end up paying more than they should? Certainly the attendant I asked reacted as if it was the first time he’d ever been asked about it.) All in all, not a great start to a Wednesday…
Oh well, the one good thing was that because the journey took me 50 minutes rather than the usual 30, I got to listen to the whole of ‘In Rainbows’ on the way in. Little things…
I was also still feeling good about the world after going to see Elbow last night at
