Joe Lean And The Sing Same Song
The Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong album is on the stereo right now.
It’s not bad.
It’s not great.
Not even good, actually.
It’s just… on - another fucking album of indie identikit blandos where, apart from the opening salvo of the actually-quite-good ‘Lucio Starts Fire’, when it finishes, I won’t be able to remember what just happened. Trying to hammer home its pointlessness even more brutally, it’s 13 tracks long.
So, take one singer, afraid to get sweaty and pulling the same pouting pose whilst singing in the same tone in what sounds like the same key for about three minutes.
Times it by 13.
Add a jangly guitar.
Times that by 13.
Some jaunty drums.
X13.
Add a pinch of Johnny Borrell here and Carl Barat there – both of whom share a label with JL&JJJ - and you have the debut by Joe Lean in your very hands.
Well done.
Now, can someone pass me the new Dirty Pretty Things album please…
