Youthmovies used to be called Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies. They’re from Oxford. That’s the easy part out of the way. The more important bit – the music – is slightly harder. They don’t fit in today’s culture of sloppy soundbites, where every band’s sound is condensed into a word or two. It’s just too difficult to do. And they’re not interested in being pigeonholed anyway…

“I don’t think we made a record that sounds like we worry what people think,” laughs Andrew Mears, the band’s singer and guitarist. It’s true. It’s a whirlwind of furious, contemplative, intelligent noise, and it sounds great – and like not much else around. So what’s their secret?

“We’re not great self-editors. We just keep every idea and work it in somehow!”

‘Good Nature’ is released on Drowned In Sound on March 17th.
