Franz Wow London Crowd

Franz Ferdinand made a live return last night with an intimate show at The Macbeth in London. The Glasgow four-piece took to the stage at roughly 10.45pm to a sweaty, packed venue and played a ten song set that saw them mix songs from their first two albums with tracks from their forthcoming third album, which they’ve spent the majority of 2008 working on.

Opening with ‘Jacqueline’, the band kept fairly quiet between songs early on, growing in confidence as the evening progressed, with frontman Alex Kapranos and guitarist Nick McCarthy engaged in a mock fight as Kapranos played the keyboard intro to ‘Outsiders’. The new songs were a departure from the guitar-driven nature of their second album, with the likes of ‘Turn It On’ and ‘Ulysses’ led by dancefloor-friendly keyboards, and the Bowie-esque ‘Kathryn Kiss Me’ and ‘A New Thrill’ harking back to the art-pop of their debut.

The setlist was:

‘Jacqueline’

‘Send Him Away’

'Tell Her Tonight'
'A New Thrill'
'Kathryn Kiss Me'
'Dark Of The Matinee'
'Ulyesses'
'What She Came For'
'Outsiders'
'Turn It On'
