Moonfest Cancelled

After yesterday’s reports that Wiltshire Police had banned the dangerous Babyshambles from performing, Moonfest organisers have completely axed the festival.

Moonfest, which was due to take place at Storridge Farm, Westbury from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st August lost their license for the Friday of the event when magistrates upheld the police's use for the first time of Section 160 of the Licensing Act 2003. The festival website today reads:

“On Monday 18th August 2008 we appeared before Chippenham magistrate's court where the police successfully convinced the magistrates that the appearance of Pete Doherty at Moonfest was likely to cause public disorder. Using section 160 of the licensing act 2003, the magistrates revoked our licence for Friday 29th August.”

“With Pete and Babyshambles being our headlining act for the weekend, this draconian action taken by the Police make it impossible to run the event at the end of August. To say we are surprised and devastated would be an understatement. The Police attended every public event licensing meeting over the last 6 months. They have always been aware that Babyshambles and Pete were appearing. The police also attended the public hearing on the 24th July when the licence was granted and made no objections; indeed they actively supported the event at the meeting. We are currently carrying out the huge task of contacting all the people involved in putting the festival together. Once we have done that we will be contacting directly all people who have purchased tickets.”

We would like to extend our thanks to all the people that have been so helpful and understanding in what has become an enormous nightmare to the Moonfest team. There are too many to list individually however we would like to say a special thank you to Pete Doherty who has volunteered to put on a free performance at a private party we are looking to organise for all the people who are affected by this terrible news.”

i was just looking to see the line up for the saturday & cant believe the whole thing is cancelled! Although i think it was totally out of order for the police to decide that this late in the game, i do not understand why the whole thing had to be cancelled!? personally we were going to see Australian pink floyd & the other rock bands on the saturday, there are going to be a lot of disappointed/annoyed folk out there who were not going to Moonfest (just) to see Pete Docherty.

I for one was not going to see Pete Doherty. I bought my tickets for the Saturday & Sunday lineup. It appears to me to be an excuse to cancel because they have only sold 150 tickets. I want my money back not a free show

I also only brought tickets for sat and sun it was an amazing line up, ive been told that saturdays tickets were nearly sold out (5000) and sundays was'nt far behind, so why on earth pull the whole weekend because of Pete not being able to play friday night, so what theres plenty of other bands playing friday, also i rung see tickets today they know nothing about it and are still selling tickets! im am so dissapointed i struggled to get the time of work as also my friends, let it continue i say.

buuuuugger! i was looking forward to that so much, especially pete! it was gunna be three days of amazing music. such is life huh. i hope there are refunds too! reconciliation for the gutted-ness. i cant believe ticket sales were low! the saturday and sunday tickets were nearly all sold out after i'd bought mine, i really had to hurry my friend along to buy his for fear theyd be gone! i dont get this :( still, that private free show thing sounds smashing, but they should have the best of the three days there, so no-ones dissapointed like!

I was going to see Aussie Pink Floyd and other bands so am really disappointed Was curious to see Babyshambles but can't see myself being whipped into a rioting frenzy by Pete Doherty somehow? Funny how Wiltshire police don't allow this licence but we have rows of pubs in Fleet St which every weekend looks like a mini riot has taken place with police vans, dogs, horses etc and no licence problems there???.......

Going against Babyshambles is just the Police giving into the media S**T hole we live in today. The papers don't like him so they don't want him there. Jumping on the band wagon is the expression I beleive
