'Rest and Be Thankful'
(Xtra Mile)

You wouldn't be blamed for thinking you've heard ‘Rest And Be Thankful’ before: back for their fourth, Glasgow's most undervalued cast down familiar twangs of laid-back, neatly-arranged rock as best they know how. There are some straight-up indie thrills for the lazy listen: 'Tonight We Will Carry Him Home' and 'Passing Place' carry their lyrical, understated pop charm, as does old fan-favourite 'Chez Chef', with its angular warmth and neater hookiness. Elsewhere 'Asking For You' shows their real talent for properly deployed, emotional instrumentation as brilliantly realised on their continuing Metronomes side-project.
Nothing about ‘Rest And Be Thankful’ bowls you down, rather it just washes over you: it'll either stick on you or it won't.
