Pivot
‘O Soundtrack My Heart’
(Warp)
After a rocky road of music-making together, Antipodean brothers Laurence and Richard Pike have finally come good with this magnificent second record. They added Dave Miller to the line-up in 2005, turning Pivot into a trio, and as a result of this and dramatically honing their sound have turned their once only locally famous outfit into one that will soon be slaying stages worldwide. Inspired by acts like Jean-Michel Jarre, Autechre, Vangelis and Talking Heads, ‘O Soundtrack My Heart’ is a mind-melting blend of rattlesnake rhythms, eerie electronics, driving basslines and skew-whiff guitars and is perhaps the most thrilling instrumental offering you’ll hear all year. Rumour has it that Warp have signed Pivot for a sixteen album deal. On the strength of this, it’s well deserved.
