Album Review: La Roux

La Roux
‘La Roux’
(Polydor)

Blues or country for heartbreak and electro for chiselled cheekbones and druggy dancefloor flailing, right? Well Elly Jackson doesn’t seem to think so. With this superb self-titled debut, which is every bit as good as the hype hinted at, the flame-haired Brixtonite has managed to paint sublime pictures of love and loss with squelchy synths, clipped beats and shimmering electronics. The result is an insanely infectious collection of tracks which not only stick in your brain from first listen but also prove that modern pop music can tug at the heartstrings. From genuinely moving ballads like ‘Armour Love’ and ‘Cover My Eyes’ to the bubbly ‘Fascination’, ‘Tigerlily’ and already adored singles ‘In For The Kill,’ Quicksand’ and ‘Bulletproof’, ‘La Roux’ is a right little stunner.

What an album! I adore every single song! You can tell that she's put alot of effort into it vocaly! When I heared "Cover My Eyes", I was nearlly in tears. And the same with "Armour Love". Well done La Roux!
